Sounds from my Kitchen: Baking a Cake

Carrot-Applesauce-Ginger Cake with Ginger-Cream Cheese Frosting
Turn up the volume or put some headphones on to get full benefit.  The cake was much easier to mix than the sound!

For the cake recipe go here: Gooey-Carrot-Apple Ginger Cake

Divided Ceramic Baking Dish - Perfect for this Dense Cake (28 x 18 cm, so each half is 14x9, you can then stack to make a layer cake, or leave as a single layer, with icing dripping down the middle!)

Ginger Cream Cheese Frosting

200 grams low fat, soft cream cheese
500 grams icing sugar
about 1 Tablespoon grated ginger
Beat all together with fork and a couple cap-fulls of brandy or your favorite flavoring!

Merry Christmas!

My kitchen - in the midst of a heavy cooking binge...I need a dishwasher! And a double sink...oh well - it's a great cooker! The kitchen measures 156 x 210 CENTIMETRES! Less to clean. 🙂

  1. I swear my kitchen doesn’t always look like this! That photo was taken in the middle of an extensive Christmas cooking frenzy. I do wash my dishes 🙂 Trust me, I really do. Would you believe me if I posted a picture of it when it’s clean and tidy? No where near as interesting or shocking! I think this messy picture serves to point out that even with a tiny kitchen, and mis-matched cookwear, you can create great food. If you want to cook, you will cook – I’ve only ever had one kitchen that was so bad I stopped cooking, that was my first flat in Brighton. Oh that kitchen was bad. The only thing it had going for it was a beautiful ornamental cherry tree that grew so close to the window, when the window was open it came into the kitchen!
