I’m doing a personal challenge to write something about food for every letter of the alphabet. I’m up to H. If anybody wants to join me they are more than welcome. My personal challenge is to make 5 posts a week about food and to follow the alphabet. How simple is that? Could be tricky. I….ice cream? Idea!
I realize it may seem odd to invite co-challengers 1/3 of the way through the alphabet, but that kind of takes the pressure off. Initially I thought I would just do it by myself, and write one post a week about food, then I realized I was writing posts about food and it seemed to be B, C, D on an almost daily basis, so I thought okay, let’s do it! Now I realize maybe some other people might like the challenge.
If you decide to do it, just leave a comment on this post and I will try to visit AND READ your A-Z food posts. There’s no pressure. If you decide to write one post a week about food and take six months going through the alphabet, that’s fine, I only ask that you write one post – about food – for every letter of the alphabet. There’s no official start date and no deadline for completion. Maybe you’d like to write 1 a month? That would take over a year. 2 per month, a year; 1 per week, 1/2 a year…decide your comfortable rate of output and do the math to set your own deadline.
You can write about vegetables, fruit, grains, drinks, cooking, recipes, restaurants, products, nutrition, fad foods, fad diets, allergies, healthy eating, hunger, dumpster diving, gluttony, food politics, food economics, food shortages, food abundance – whatever, as long as it’s about food.
I’m a vegetarian. So I really like vegetables and am interested to read more vegetarian/vegan recipe tricks and more about why people choose vegetarianism. If you’re not already a Veggie, perhaps you’d like to take on the A-Z Food Challenge to learn more about it. If you are a Veggie or Vegan perhaps you’d like to write about that.
I’m also interested to read about the politics and economics of food. They say there’s a global food shortage, and food prices are going-up to reflect that. Obesity is becoming a health problem in some countries, while some are starving to death – right round the corner, and on the other side of the globe. There’s a lot more to food than what’s on our plates, let’s explore it.
Really, how did our food get from the picture at the top of this post to the ones down here at the end? Which would you rather eat? Where would you rather be? Join me?

I love this idea. I think I’ve bitten off more than I can chew with 3 blogs. I am going to watch you go to z though, because I learn something with every one of your posts.
AND I’ve given you your very own folder in my email, titled Alison’s Veggie meals! The eggy bread is on my list next. Just haven’t had the chance to make a new batch of bread. Today…..later today……
We’re reading you, keep posting. 🙂
Glad you learn from my posts Jen. I’m hardly an authority on food, just know what I like, yet can often be surprised. And my very own folder in your email! Wow! A
I’ve been reading your posts and will continue to follow them. However, as much as I like food, I still remain very behind with things on my end and cannot commit to any ongoing challenge. I may even have to cut back on my current blogging schedule if additional issues arise.
Have fun with food!
Lee
Thanks for reading and commenting Lee! I can well appreciate you might not have time to write about food with all the regular topics you cover. I got on the food kick due to a challenge that came up in conversation while I was writing your A-Z. Of all the topics I’ve ever written about, I never thought I’d write about food. Only ever wrote one food thing for a magazine, that was an advertising supplement on organic food for Monday magazine in Victoria, B.C.
This sounds fun! I probably have a few letters of the alphabet covered already on my Lady Locavore Blog, but will rise to the challenge of indulging in recipes that start with the other crazy letters as well. Thanks for the invite!
Great! I’ll enjoy reading. You don’t have to just write recipes, you can write anything you want about food! Also you can cheat and use some posts you already have, filing in, and linking to your A-Z category. 🙂
I would love to do some letters! (not sure if I could do every letter though)
You never know till you try Amy! It would be great to read your A-Z food. The only way you’ll ever find if you can do every letter is to start! You might surprise yourself! Alison
