My mother made little smoked oyster canapes for her card playing friends, but they didn’t like them, so I took them and improvised a puttanesca. Not vegetarian, you say? No – definitely not! I’m not a strict vegetarian – I do eat fish, and I like the flavours things like anchovies and smoked oysters bring to some dishes.
- 4 cloves garlic, diced
- 1 small can smoked oysters (on small pieces of toast)
- 1 x 14oz can chopped green olives (or chop whole olives, keeping about a 1/3 aside to add whole)
- and about
- 1/4 dried red hot chili
- 1 tsp dried rosemary, crushed between your palms
- 1/2 tsp dried basil
- 1/4 tsp dried thyme
Saute this for about 10-15 minutes to allow the flavours to blend, then add
- 1 x 28oz can crushed tomatoes
Stir well, cover and leave on a slow simmer for about an hour.
Serve with your favorite pasta…
…rice, quinoa, baked potato
I once had a variation of this served over spaghetti squash!

I like your new blog style. But come on, you aren’t a ‘strict vegetarian’, you aren’t one at all. If you eat fish, you aren’t veg. We both know that. You might be a non-meat-eater or a pescatarian or however you choose to describe yourself. Please don’t say you are vegetarian of any type. A strict vegetarian goes for free-range eggs and vegetarian cheese without animal rennet. It’s confusing enough getting those messages across without people who eat fish/seafood claiming they are not a strict vegetarian.
I am chastised and concede to your argument.
Glad you like the new blog style. Decided it was time for a change. 🙂
You’re intelligent enough to know the difference, but others aren’t.
It’s much easier to read on a white/pale background, plus without the links it loads and unloads much faster. I realised you wanted the links to your performing arts sites but they really caused havoc!
I’d change my blog but it would only be for more of the same, so why bother? Both my original blogger blog and WP ones look virtually identical. Hope life is treating you well back in Canada. (Read a post about Brighton veg/vegan fest recently and thought of you!)
